Christa (she/her) is a member of Sparrow’s Sales team. Let’s get to know Christa!

How did you get to where you are?

I grew up in Encinitas, CA, where the ocean was always a big part of my life. I’ve been on the swim team since I was five and competed in distance rough water swims and triathlons. When I was a little girl, my dad and I would swim out to the kelp forests in the middle of the night and go lobster diving together. I became a lifeguard after high school and would teach the Junior Lifeguard program during the summer months to support myself through college. When I graduated college, a parent of one of my students suggested I would be good at pharmaceutical sales, and she became my mentor. Ten years later, I was lucky enough to work with Sparrow’s CRO, Paul Park, in a previous role, and he encouraged me to interview at Sparrow. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to work alongside Paul again on such an awesome mission. Helping people has been a passion of mine since I was young.

What is a fun fact about you?

I was a Los Angeles County Ocean Lifeguard for 8 years working in Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach.

Why did you join Sparrow?

Unfortunately, my first pregnancy ended in a twin stillbirth due to a rare disease called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). It impacted my life significantly, and the bureaucracy of the leave process made an impossible situation even more stressful and complicated. My claim was denied initially, and I ended up going back to work early because I had no idea what my options were amongst other challenges. After going through that, I knew I wanted to incorporate helping others who have experienced miscarriage, infant loss, or stillbirth within my career, and when I heard about Sparrow, I knew I had to be a part of what we are doing here.

What is your favorite part of working at Sparrow?

I love knowing that Sparrow is making a huge difference in so many people’s lives during their most vulnerable times and listening to our customers’ stories. Seeing firsthand how we help people and their families is both rewarding and motivating.

What are you doing this weekend?

I’m going to the park or beach with my family and doing a polar plunge with my husband.

What are you most proud of in the last year?

Starting my role at Sparrow when I was 34 weeks pregnant and the birth of my son.
