Shaun (he/him) is a member of Sparrow’s Leave Administrator team. Let’s get to know Shaun!

How did you get to where you are?

I got to where I am today by working through various warehousing, distribution, and logistics leadership roles. In each role, I closely paid attention to processes and how they interact, and I’m glad that I can bring that eye to Sparrow. Recently before Sparrow, I was leading a distribution warehouse team through COVID, and that experience resulted in burnout. After joining Sparrow, I have held 3 roles in succession (Leave Administrator I, Leave Administrator II, and Lead Leave Administrator) within two years. Each role has taught me many new things and provided me with amazing growth opportunities. The collaborative environment and positive attitude at Sparrow have made it so easy for me to thrive professionally and personally, and I am proud to continue making leave stress-free with the team.

What is a fun fact about you?

I love all sorts of music and transposing it across different genres using multiple guitars. My dad plays guitar, and when I was 10 years old, I decided that I wanted to as well! After 1-2 years of guitar lessons, I took learning into my own hands and love it.

Why did you join Sparrow?

After working through COVID and experiencing burnout, I wanted to have more of an impact through my professional career. In addition to looking for a collaborative environment, I also sought more flexible work-from-home options to accommodate when life happens. Having once taken a medical leave myself and knowing how stressful and frustrating it can be with little or no support, Sparrow really stuck out to me as a people-based company, and they have proven this to me every day since.

What is your favorite part of working at Sparrow?

Sparrow is a special workplace filled with constant collaboration and encouragement that fosters personal and professional growth. My favorite part of working at Sparrow is getting to collaborate with so many other people who genuinely care about our direct impact, and making educated decisions to positively affect people on leave during an already stressful time. Being a part of the solution to a complicated problem is so rewarding. My second favorite part of working at Sparrow is the impact itself that we have. It is so rewarding to be a part of building the processes that help ease the burdens of leave for so many others and directly see it. You know you are making a difference!

What are you most excited about for your role in the next 6 months?

I recently became a Lead Leave Administrator here at Sparrow. I am most excited to continue collaborating and growing in this new role, assisting my teammates wherever possible, and working with them to help build out the best processes to deliver stress-free leaves!

What are some of your hobbies?

I love playing guitar, singing, reading, and anything IT-related.

What are you most proud of in the last year?

Personally, I am most proud of extending my musical boundaries and learning the ins and outs of baritone guitars! Professionally, I am most proud of becoming a Lead Leave Administrator here at Sparrow and look forward to working hard at keeping leaves stress-free!

What’s the last show you binge-watched?

The Office (of course!) Dwight is my favorite character (though I love them all), and my favorite episode is “Stress Relief” (season 5 ep. 13), where Dwight is testing fire safety and almost gives poor Stanley and the rest of the office a heart attack.
